Well in short it stands for Look Up Table. It’s used by video editors and photo editors to quickly add a stylized look to their shots when editing. Alot of times it gets the look nearly where you’d like it and you then tweak the image a bit more but not hardly as much as from scratch. It’s a time saver! A preset you could say.

Well they primarily are designed for video editors and sometimes photo editors. You use them in your pro level video editing programs. So it won’t work really with iMovie for instance. Any program that normally allows you to manipulate your image and colors manually should allow for LUTs.
